Where Richmond’s past meets modern celebration, culture, and connection.

Nestled in the heart of Richmond, the Barret House stands as a timeless symbol of elegance and history. Built in 1844 for Richmond's wealthiest businessman, William Barret, the Barret House features stately columns, symmetrical proportions, and classical ornamentation, standing as one of Richmond's finest examples of Greek Revival architecture. Today, the Barret House continues to serve as a landmark of heritage, offering visitors a glimpse into the city’s rich history and the lives of those who helped define it.

Past and present exist side by side at The Barret House. From its earliest days to its modern revival, the house has remained deeply connected to the stories of Richmond — preserving its architectural beauty while continuing to create new experiences rooted in culture, conversation, and celebration.

Today, The Barret House serves as the headquarters of Astyra Corporation which is a powerful symbol of progress and transformation in downtown Richmond.
Once owned by one of the wealthiest men in Richmond at the time of his death, a man whose legacy was tied to slavery and inequality, the house now stands under the leadership of Astyra founders Sam Young and Ken Ampy. Their ownership represents a historic shift — two Black business leaders reclaiming and redefining a space once shaped by exclusion.
What once symbolized power for a few now reflects opportunity, resilience, and a new vision for Richmond’s future.
